An immersion cooling heat exchanger is a device that transfers heat from dielectric fluid (used to cool submerged ASIC miners) to a secondary water loop for practical use. The system works by circulating dielectric fluid through a sealed tank containing submerged miners, where the fluid absorbs heat directly from the ASIC chips. This heated fluid then passes through a heat exchanger, which transfers the thermal energy to a clean water loop without mixing the two fluids. The hot water (typically 50-60°C) can then be circulated through radiators, underfloor heating systems, or used for domestic hot water.
Unlike standard hydro cooling (which uses cold plates attached to chips), immersion cooling completely submerges the entire miner in dielectric fluid. This provides several advantages: 360-degree heat contact for superior thermal transfer, elimination of all fans (the miners become completely silent), protection from dust, humidity, and corrosion, and significantly extended hardware lifespan due to consistent chip temperatures.
Most immersion cooling systems produce hot water at 50-60°C, which is ideal for:

This temperature range is compatible with most residential and commercial heating systems without requiring additional heat pumps or boosters.
The heat recovery potential equals the power draw of your miners. Every 1,000W of mining power produces approximately 3,412 BTU per hour of heat. For a typical 3,500W ASIC miner, this equals about 12,000 BTU/hr. A single high-power miner (4,000W) provides roughly 13,600 BTU/hr, equivalent to a small residential furnace output for a well-insulated room.
For effective heat recovery, the system must maintain:

Secondary water outlet: 50-60°C (suitable for heating applications)

Flow rate: Sufficient to maintain temperature differential (typically 30-50 L/min for 4-6 miners)

The system efficiency decreases if flow rates drop below recommended levels or if fluid temperature falls below 40°C.
The following miners are compatible with immersion cooling: Antminer S19 series, Antminer S21 series, Whatsminer M50/M60 series, Avalon A14/A15 series, and most SHA-256 ASICs. However, some miner modifications are required: removal of stock fans, installation of fan simulators, and sometimes PSU fan modifications.
